Description: For sale is a vintage book, Evansville Shipyard 1942-1944. This well-illustrated spiral-bound softcover book tells the story of the Evansville Shipyard, a 45-acre complex on the banks of the Ohio River in Evansville, Indiana, which was constructed for the production of ocean-going LSTs (Landing Ship Tanks) during Word War II. This Shipyard was the nation’s largest inland producer of LSTs. About 16,000 people were employed in making these ships, which saw action in all parts of the world. This book contains about 75 pages that chronicle the story of this “city within a city.” It is a first edition, copyright 1944. It is extremely hard to find and seldom offered for sale. It measures 9 by 12 inches and is in very good condition; the first page is loose, but present. This book would make a wonderful addition to any collection of Evansville or World War II memorabilia. Payment is expected within three days. Please e-mail me with any questions, and thanks for looking!
