Description: A truly vintage medal commemorating the 1952 Exposition of the relics of St. Francisco Xavier (1506 - 1552). The Exposition occurred on the 400th year of his death. He was born in Spain in 1506 and died of a fever in China in 1552. This particular medal is somewhat difficult to find. The medal was crafted in 1952. It is about 1" diameter and weighs 11.0 grams. The medal is high relief. ITALY is marked on the bale, at the top of the medal. St. Francisco Xavier is on the front. A depiction of his coffin is on reverse. The word SOUVENIR is also on reverse. The overall condition of the medal is very good to good. The details are fully visible, front and reverse. There is minimal softening of the details. The condition of the medal is reduced by age-related discoloration. It appears the medal was originally coated with gold-tone. In the present day, the gold tone remains only in the deep recesses of the high relief design. This is not at all surprising, given the medal is 72 years of age. The many photographs serve as the best descriptor for this truly vintage 1952 medal. I have set my offer threshold relatively high on this item.
