Description: Southern Bonnet Belle Quilt Twin XL Size Shown displayed on a queen size bed, and it’s sitting on top of a comforter, as it is too small This Kentucky made coverlet style handmade blanket is a whimsical take on the iconic Americana Sunbonnet Sue pattern. “That girl with the bonnet”, Sunbonnet Sue, Dutch Doll, Bonnie Bonnet, Sun Bonnet Babies… whatever the block pattern is called, she’s a classic and gained a renewed popularity in the 1970s, often along side Holly Hobbie. This quilt I believe dates back to the 1930s / 1940s, as most of the printed patches are made from feed sack calico cottons. The main color the quilt is an antique ivory flour sack material, and the borders are a ditzy floral in shades of yellow, red and lavender. . It’s hand sewn and pieced, with single needle machine sewing on the silhouettes. There’s some great 30s / 40s era feed sack prints on this lovely piece, including farmhouse style prairie floral prints, cottage / tropical inspired barkcloth and shirting materials. What makes this special: I included a close up of my favorite block - I did a repair on this piece, adding the Laura Ashley patchwork fan into the design. Condition: One sizable rust spot o back of the quilt, and some other faint spots along with an added patch on the back as a repair. Some overall yellowing due to age, but nothing to the amount of being true damage. I have secured these areas with stitching. This quilt is fully functional, and has been lovingly restored as you can see from the detail shots, hand stitched back to life. This quilt has been freshly washed and is ready to love.
