Vintage 70s Eagle & Stars Patriotic American Traditional Tattoo Quilt Blanket

Description: Sailor Jerry Style Tattoo Eagle Blanket Double / Twin XL Size Shown displayed on a queen size bed, over top of another blanket as this does not fit This mid century era coverlet or comforter blanket is a soft cotton, with machine stitching, and an engineered border design. It’s long enough that you can pull the blanket up over top of the pillows. What makes this special: This piece was a fun one to research. There’s a ton of different variations on this design, dating back to the Federal era, civil war, and WW2. This piece I believe is from the 1960s / early 1970’s era and I believe it was originally part of an appliqué quilt kit that was sold by the brand Progress. I have seen a few of these that were completed with cross stitch, patchwork, and embroidery as it’s a basic neutral piece that was often embellished by crafters, to make one of a kind custom pieces. One version of this quilt is shown in the quilt dating database, added as a family heirloom made in the 60s, which seems accurate to the age of this piece as well. t’s cotton, and later 70s era pieces made around the bicentennial as commemorative projects tend to have polyester batting. Decorating details: The gold and white color scheme sits nicely with a neutral colored farmhouse or cabin decorating style, and I could see this piece with plaid, chambray and denim pillow cases added for a masculine look. Condition: A few small issues to note: There’s a few spots of missing stitching, and others with yellowing, as highlighted in the photos - one near the top of the blanket, below the laurel design, and another area that is near the center of the eagle design. This quilt is soft, and the fabric has no signs of dry rot or damage. I have included a detail shot showing the back, as it’s visible that some of the cotton batting appears to have thinned at the bottom. This quilt has no holes, tears or damage.
