Description: This vintage ceramic pitcher or planter is a unique addition to any collection. The shape of the pitcher is similar to that of a swan, with a white body and pastel blue and yellow accents. The orange beak adds a pop of color to the piece. The light glaze finish adds a touch of elegance. Made in Czechoslovakia before the Czech Republic and Slovakia split. This piece could be an antique. I would use this swan as a planter, but it most definitely would look great in a collection of other Czech pieces or a stand-alone on a shelf. The inside of the pitcher near the handle has a very slight discoloration - see pics. The inside of this piece is in great shape. There is a tiny dot of brown you can see in the pics. The top of the swan head has a manufacturing flaw seen in the pics. And the back of the swan has a tiny white dot that probably wasn't painted before it was glazed. The bottom has what is called a red dime mark - Made in Czechoslovakia. #33 is also stamped on the bottom. I'd say for being as old as it is this piece is in excellent condition. A little history from the website Antiqueweek.com: After WWI, ceramic factories in Czechoslovakia produced many small items, including bird figurines for export. These birds were often featured on plates, teapots, pitchers and flower vases. There is no information on what Czech companies made these birds or when. The latest date of production is probably before WWll. More than 200 bird varieties have been documented and new ones are still being found.
