Description: This gorgeous serving dish in faience was designed by Swedish designer, Stig Lindberg, at Gustavsberg Studio in Stockholm. It is in excellent condition and measures approximately 12.25 inches by 4.25 inches as shown in the pictures. Photos are of the real item. Although exact year unknown, this piece was likely made in the 1950s. In 1942, Gustavsberg opened the exhibition, "Faience Painted in Spring," in Stockholm. The press screening of this exhibition was attended by a lot of journalists because an invitation card made of faience had been sent out. The objects were made of earthenware with milky white glazes and strong colored geometric or floral patters. They came in a great range of motifs, color settings, and sizes. The faiences were molded or thrown, and then decorated by hand in the Gustavsberg Studio. As you can see in the photo, they were signed with the "studio hand." If the signature was in brown it was designed by Wilhelm Kage, and if it was in blue (like this one) it was designed by Stig Lindberg.
