Description: NEWLY WIREDVINTAGE HAND PAINTED FLORAL GARDEN TABLE LAMP FROM ILLONA KERAMIK OF DENMARK20 INCHES TALL This style of pottery was VERY popular in Denmark in the 1940's and 1950's. I have read that there is currently a resurgence in its popularity. That doesn't surprise me, the motifs are so sweet and are so beautiful! Nature/garden themes and floral designs have always been Scandinavian favorites! This lamp is un-signed, but matches the style and character of my other "illona" of Denmark studio pottery lamps. APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS: This lovely handcrafted floral garden lamp measures almost 20 inches tall from the base to the top of the finial. The lamp measures about 9.5 inches from the base to the top of the ceramic neck. The diameter at the widest point is almost 6 inches. Stamped inside the new light socket it says"250 v" and "250 w" so the MAXIMUM wattage for a light bulb is 250 watts. This lamp is newly wired. Has new electrical light socket, cord, plug, brass harp, beautiful brass neck, and brass-colored finial. It is in excellent working condition! No light bulb or shade is included. The glaze on this lamp has the characteristic irregularities of handmade studio pottery. There are uneven glaze spots, one in particular on the under belly side of the lamp, so it is not really visible from the top down or the side. Also has some popped "pottery pimples." Handmade items are not perfect, this gives them character! HISTORY:The information on illona studio pottery is sketchy at best! After hours of research, this is what I have found. The information listed below, may or may not be accurate. Illona Keramik was supposedly founded by Marton Schwarz, who lived from 1899-1980. I found ONE picture of Illona pottery on the internet signed with the initials MS, so this could be true! Illona was supposedly a "painter girl" at Lars Syberg Keramik at one time. This I believe, as the art work produced by Illona is decorated in the same style as many of the Syberg pieces. Sometimes the art looks so similar that you have to read the pottery mark to know which pottery produced it! Illona's last name may have been Strøbæk. Supposedly the studio pottery was located in the town of Gentofte, Denmark. Gentofte is north of Copenhagen, on the island of Zealand. PLEASE REFER TO PICTURES AS THEY ARE PART OF THE DESCRIPTION. Your order will be very well-packed, double-boxed and insured. The double-boxing adds size and weight to the shipping box but is much better protection for your Retro pottery lamp! NOTE: WE TRIED TO REMOVE THE NEW BRASS HARP TO MAKE THE LAMP SHORTER, BUT IT IS ON THERE SO TIGHTLY, WE HAD TO LEAVE IT ON. THIS GREATLY ENLARGED THE SIZE OF THE OUTER SHIPPING BOX. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. No combined shipping is available with this lamp. Thank you!
