If local pickup is selected and if applicable, payment processing fee will still be assessed and due. About Vytautas Kasiulis Vytautas Kasiulis was a Lithuanian painter of the School of Paris. Kasiulis was born in Simnas, son of the painter and designer Matas Kasiulis. From 1937 to 1941, he was a student at Kaunas Art School. In 1943, he held a personal exhibition at the Vytautas Didysis Museum of Culture which achieved wide acclaim and favorable reviews about the originality of his work. Critics specifically identified the darkish coloring of the canvases and the masterly play of light as reminiscent of the works of old masters. In 1944, Kasiulis left Lithuania. In 1946, in Freiburg, Germany he taught art at the Art and Trades School along with other artists who had left Lithuania. During his Freiburg period some radical stylistic changes began to appear in his work: lighter and clearer colouring, softer lines of the forms, less emphasis on perspective, more decorativeness and ornamentation. In 1948, Kasiulis arrived in Paris. He had his first exhibition in Paris in 1949 at the gallery of Raymond Duncan; and a year later, after an exhibition at the gallery of Christian-Gilbert Stiébel. Kasiulis was one of the most famous Lithuanian artists who became exiled in Paris after the annexation of their country by the Soviet Union. Starting in 1954, Kasiulis also showed his work outside France, notably in Berlin, Copenhagen, Geneva, Stockholm, Cleveland, New York, and Toronto. He also participated in several salons, including the Salon Des Indépendants.
